A major law enforcement operation in Salt Lake City has resulted in the indictment of a Murray, Utah man accused of trafficking fentanyl and illegally possessing a firearm. The bust, which occurred during a controlled purchase, uncovered more than 10,000 fentanyl pills and a 9 mm handgun — triggering serious federal charges under both drug and weapons laws.

Massive Fentanyl Seizure & Arrest

On November 17, undercover agents from federal narcotics and homeland-security task forces executed a controlled purchase of fentanyl pills near Murray, Utah. During the operation, the alleged dealer was apprehended, and authorities confiscated approximately 1,032 grams of fentanyl — believed to amount to some 10,000 individual pills — along with a Springfield Hellcat 9 mm handgun. The scale of the seizure highlights ongoing concerns over the flow of potent synthetic opioids into U.S. communities.

Charges: Drug Trafficking, Firearm Possession & More

The suspect, a 36-year-old resident of Murray, has been formally charged with:

  • Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime

He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on December 4, 2025, at a federal courthouse in Salt Lake City.

This case underscores a federal crackdown on opioid trafficking and the blending of narcotics distribution with illegal gun possession — a dangerous mix prosecutors are increasingly targeting.

Part of Broader Anti-Trafficking Initiative

Prosecutors say this case forms part of a nationwide effort to crack down on drug trafficking, cartel activity, and associated violent crime. The coordinated work of multiple agencies demonstrates an aggressive stance toward dismantling networks that combine opioid distribution with firearms and violence.
