The United States has firmly rejected suggestions that it is seeking to dismantle NATO or weaken the existing global order. Addressing growing concerns in Europe, the US ambassador clarified that Washington remains committed to its alliances and continues to view NATO as central to collective security.
US Stance on NATO Remains Unchanged
According to the ambassador, recent political debates and policy discussions should not be interpreted as a shift away from NATO. The US continues to support the alliance’s core principle of collective defence and values the role NATO plays in maintaining peace and stability across Europe and beyond.
He emphasised that differences in tone or policy priorities do not equal disengagement, adding that strong alliances often involve open debate.
Commitment to the Rules-Based World Order
The ambassador also addressed fears that the US is attempting to undermine the international, rules-based order. He stated that Washington still supports global institutions, international law, and cooperation with partners to manage shared challenges such as security threats and geopolitical instability.
Rather than dismantling existing systems, the US aims to modernise cooperation frameworks so they can respond effectively to today’s realities.
Reassurance to European Allies
European allies were reassured that the US sees transatlantic relations as a long-term partnership. The ambassador highlighted ongoing diplomatic engagement, military cooperation, and shared strategic goals as proof that the alliance remains strong despite political noise.
