Trump Claims Economic Gains, Border Control in Prime-Time Address to Nation (full script)

Trump

In a prime-time national address on Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump delivered a wide-ranging speech in which he claimed major economic, security, and foreign policy achievements during what he described as the first 11 months of his administration.Speaking from Washington, Trump said he had “inherited a mess,” blaming the previous Democratic administration for high inflation, rising crime, an open southern border, and what he characterized as global instability. He asserted that inflation under his predecessor reached its worst level in decades and made life unaffordable for millions of Americans.Trump claimed his administration had completely halted illegal border crossings over the past seven months, calling it a turnaround from what he described as the “worst border anywhere in the world.” He said criminal deportations had increased and credited his policies with improving safety in major cities and weakening foreign drug cartels. On the economy, Trump said prices for gas, groceries, airfare, and housing were falling, while wages were rising faster than inflation. He pointed to lower egg and turkey prices, declining gasoline costs in some states, and increased private-sector job growth. He also claimed that $18 trillion in new investment had been secured through tariffs and domestic manufacturing incentives.Trump highlighted a sweeping tax and spending package he called a “big, beautiful bill,” which he said included eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits for seniors. He predicted that Americans would see larger tax refunds next year as a result. In a surprise announcement, Trump said more than 1.45 million military service members would receive a one-time $1,776 “warrior dividend” before Christmas, tying the figure to the year of America’s founding. On foreign policy, Trump claimed credit for settling multiple international conflicts, ending the war in Gaza, neutralizing Iran’s nuclear threat, and securing hostages. He also said the U.S. military had seen record enlistment after what he described as historically low recruitment the previous year.Trump further announced plans to sharply reduce prescription drug prices through direct negotiations with pharmaceutical companies and foreign governments, using tariffs as leverage. He said price reductions of up to 600% would begin in January through a new federal website. The former president also criticized the Affordable Care Act, calling it “unaffordable,” and said his administration would redirect healthcare funding directly to individuals. He blamed Democratic energy policies for rising electricity costs and said a national energy emergency declaration had helped bring gasoline prices down.Closing the speech, Trump said the United States was “respected again” on the world stage and poised for what he described as an unprecedented economic boom. He pointed to upcoming global events, including the World Cup, the Olympics, and the nation’s 250th anniversary, as symbols of America’s resurgence.Trump ended his address by wishing Americans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
