Suspected Gang Hitman Taken Into Custody After Lengthy Manhunt
Philadelphia authorities, alongside federal law enforcement, have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of acting as a hitman in connection with three fatal shootings in the city. The arrest ends more than a year of evasion and highlights coordinated efforts by the U.S. Marshals Service and local detectives to apprehend violent fugitives.
Fugitive Finally Captured After Months on the Run
Law enforcement officials say Tyvine Jones, a suspected hitman for a Philadelphia street gang, was located early Wednesday at an apartment complex in Delaware County following an anonymous tip. U.S. Marshals, Pennsylvania Attorney General agents and Philadelphia homicide investigators surrounded the Stratford Court Apartments, where Jones surrendered without resistance.
The fugitive had been on the run since early 2024, frequently relocating throughout Philadelphia and surrounding counties while avoiding detection. Authorities had listed him among the city’s most wanted due to his alleged ties to multiple shootings.
Linked to Three Fatal Shootings in Philadelphia
Prosecutors have charged Jones with three counts of first-degree murder for allegedly carrying out separate shootings between August 2020 and September 2022. The victims — aged 16, 20 and 23 — died from gunshot wounds in incidents spanning North and Northeast Philadelphia.
Officials characterized Jones as a dangerous figure whose alleged actions contributed to ongoing gang violence within the city. His arrest is seen by law enforcement leaders as a critical breakthrough in efforts to reduce violent crime and protect community safety.
Law Enforcement Reaction and Next Steps
U.S. Marshals praised the cooperative effort between federal and local agencies that led to the arrest and emphasized their ongoing commitment to capturing violent offenders. Jones was transported to Philadelphia homicide detectives for processing and will face a preliminary hearing scheduled later this month.
