In a dramatic late-night pursuit, several teenagers were arrested after they allegedly fired at a police officer from a stolen SUV during a high-speed chase along Aurora Avenue North and Interstate 5. The police managed to end the chase using a PIT maneuver and recovered firearms near the abandoned vehicle.
🔹 Incident Unfolds: Erratic Driving, Flight from Police
On the night of November 29, officers from a Community Response Group (CRG) on patrol in North Seattle spotted a Dodge Durango SUV driving recklessly at high speed on Aurora Avenue North. When officers tried to stop the SUV, it fled. Plainclothes police later located the vehicle parked in South Seattle — but as patrol units moved to intercept, the SUV sped off again.
🔹 Gunfire, Crossfire and a Terrified Witness
As the stolen SUV traveled south on I-5, occupants reportedly fired multiple rounds at a plain-clothes CRG officer. The officer was unhurt, and police did not return fire. However, another motorist — identified as Okswana Matsegora — was struck by bullet fragments. She later described the scene as “surreal,” recounting how she saw her windshield shatter and feared for her life.
🔹 Arrests, Weapons Recovered, Juveniles Booked
The pursuit continued into Tukwila, ending when officers deployed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver at Military Road South — forcing the SUV to halt. Police detained several suspects: three teen girls (ages 15 to 17) and a 16-year-old boy who tried to flee. Two other male suspects escaped on foot despite a K9 search.
At the scene, a handgun was found near the abandoned SUV, and a second firearm was recovered from the teenage boy — who was already wanted on a felony robbery warrant. All four juveniles were booked into a juvenile detention center and face grave charges including assault in the first degree, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful firearm possession, and evading police.
