A woman in Florida is in custody after police say she fatally shot two of her former husbands in separate incidents on the same day. Law enforcement officials believe the deaths occurred in different parts of the state, prompting a multi-county investigation.
The suspect, identified as Susan Avalon, 51, was taken into custody following the first shooting in Bradenton, where a 54-year-old man — one of her ex-husbands — was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at a local hospital. Authorities say the victim indicated before his death that his former wife might have been responsible.
Investigation Leads Detectives Across Counties
After the first shooting, law enforcement located Avalon in Citrus County, where she was observed attempting to clean her vehicle with bleach and cloths, according to officials. When questioned about her former spouse, she reportedly responded, “Which one?” — a remark that raised further suspicion and shifted the focus of the inquiry.
That prompted detectives to contact Tampa police, who conducted a welfare check at a residence where Avalon’s second ex-husband lived. Officers discovered another man dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside the home, and investigators now believe both killings are connected.
Charges, Motive and Ongoing Probe
Avalon has been formally charged with second-degree murder in the Bradenton killing. However, investigators say there is “credible evidence” linking her to the Tampa death as well, and additional charges may follow as the case unfolds.
Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the shootings, with early inquiries exploring possible long-standing conflicts and legal disputes between the suspect and her former spouses. Law enforcement agencies from multiple counties are coordinating their efforts, and the investigation remains active.
