A routine stop at a McDonald’s in Davie, Florida, turned into a dramatic criminal case when a group allegedly kidnapped a man after accusing him of taking their phone. What began within restaurant walls escalated into a police chase across multiple cities, ending when the suspects crashed their SUV and provided officers sufficient evidence to make five arrests.
From Cell Phone to Kidnapping Inside a McDonald’s
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., the victim was inside the fast-food restaurant when the group approached him, took his phone and told him to get in their vehicle if he wanted it back. According to the Davie Police Department, the suspects then forced the man into their white SUV and drove him about 10 miles to the 700 block of Northwest 9th Avenue in nearby Fort Lauderdale. Once there, the victim managed to flee and dialed 911 to report the abduction.
High-Speed Chase and Crash Bring the Case to a Halt
Police from Davie, Fort Lauderdale and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office tracked the vehicle using GPS data from the victim’s phone, following it into Pompano Beach. Media footage captured the SUV crashing into a pole before three adult suspects and two minors bolted on foot. The team quickly moved in: 30-year-old Tracey Ross, 18-year-olds Lamar Perry and Timothy Brown, plus two unnamed juveniles, were arrested at the scene.
Charges, Evidence and the Next Steps
Ross faces charges including kidnapping, causing bodily harm, fleeing police and resisting arrest. Perry has been charged with kidnapping, bodily harm or terrorising a victim, motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest, minor firearm possession and burglary. Brown is charged with kidnapping and bodily harm, though his involvement remains under investigation. The victims and suspects remain unnamed, and police continue to piece together the motive behind the phone-theft claim.
