A shocking act of violence struck Taipei, Taiwan, on Friday evening, when a man wielding a knife and smoke grenades launched a random attack across busy public areas, resulting in three confirmed fatalities and multiple injuries. The incident escalated further when the suspect later fell to his death from a nearby department store building, officials reported.
Rampage Across Transit and Shopping Districts
The assault began near Taipei Main Station, a central transit hub, where the attacker deployed a smoke grenade that filled crowded pathways with thick smoke and instigated panic among commuters. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as pedestrians fled for safety amid confusion.
Shortly after, the assailant moved into a well-known shopping district, entering a department store and randomly stabbing bystanders, primarily targeting their necks. Emergency services quickly responded to the calls, transporting victims to hospitals as authorities cordoned off the area.

Suspect’s Death and Official Response
After the attacks, the suspect was pursued by police and was later found critically injured after falling from the sixth floor of the department store building. He was subsequently treated at a hospital but was pronounced dead, according to local reports.
Taipei city leaders confirmed the fatalities, noting that at least three civilians lost their lives, and several others were hospitalized with injuries ranging from stab wounds to smoke inhalation. One victim reportedly suffered cardiac arrest during the chaos.
