Stanfield Man Arrested on Grave Charges in Alleged Home Invasion
A 44-year-old man who helped build one of Charlotte’s notable craft breweries was taken into custody after authorities say he broke into a residence and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in Stanly County, North Carolina. The incident occurred late Wednesday night and has since prompted arrest and community reaction.
According to court filings, deputies responded to a 911 call from the teenager’s parents, who discovered an unknown adult male inside their daughter’s bedroom. Upon arrival, law enforcement found the suspect outside and took him into custody without incident.
A judge set his bond at $10 million, and he remains jailed while facing multiple felony charges, law enforcement officials confirmed.
Felony Charges Include Burglary and Statutory Rape
Law enforcement documents list several serious charges, including:
- First-degree burglary
- Statutory rape of a minor
- Indecent liberties with a child
Authorities say the suspect allegedly forced entry into the home before committing the assault. Court records state the alleged victim was 13 years old at the time of the incident.
The arrest and charges were issued by the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, which continues to lead the criminal investigation.
Brewery Ownership Shifted as Community Responds
The man was previously co-owner of Sycamore Brewing in Charlotte, a brewery founded in 2013 with a growing regional presence. In response to the arrest, his wife — the brewery’s other co-founder — released a statement saying she is taking sole control of the business and that he will have no further involvement.
Local establishments also reacted swiftly: one Wilmington beer garden announced it would remove all products from the brewery and donate proceeds to a local rape crisis support center, signaling community support for survivors.
Investigation Continues; Legal Proceedings Pending
As of now, authorities have executed a search warrant at a separate address related to the case, and further details are expected as the investigation unfolds. A next court date for the suspect has been scheduled, and prosecutors are pursuing the felony counts.
