TUCSON, Arizona — Investigators returned Wednesday to the Tucson-area home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of broadcast journalist Savannah Guthrie, as the multi-agency probe into her disappearance continues into its fifth day. Law enforcement activity at the Catalina Foothills residence included setting up crime scene tape and deploying K-9 units in a renewed effort to uncover additional evidence in the still-unsolved case.
Authorities had previously processed the property and handed it back to family members, but officials cautioned that further activity at the site might occur as the investigation remains active.
Investigation Treated as Possible Abduction
Sheriff Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has characterized the circumstances surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance as concerning and consistent with foul play, moving the probe beyond a standard missing-persons case. Physical evidence at the scene, including confirmed DNA belonging to Guthrie, has led investigators to treat the matter as a criminal investigation rather than a simple disappearance.
Officials believe Guthrie was taken from her home against her will sometime Saturday night and has not been seen since. The 84-year-old woman requires daily medication and is limited in her mobility, making a voluntary disappearance unlikely.

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have taken to social media with emotional appeals for their mother’s safe return, asking anyone with information — including possible captors — to make contact and provide proof that she is alive. The family’s message underscores the urgency of finding Guthrie, given her health and need for medication.
Law enforcement continues to urge residents in the area to review doorbell and security camera footage, and members of the public have been encouraged to submit tips that could help lead to answers in the case.
