Anaheim Woman Accused of Decapitating Boyfriend Extradited from Mexico to Face Murder Charges
Alyssa Marie Lira, a 23-year-old woman from Anaheim, California, has been extradited from Mexico and charged with murder in connection with the decapitation of her boyfriend, 55-year-old Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal. Authorities report that Lira was taken into custody by Mexican officials on January 22, 2026, and subsequently handed over to Anaheim police at the San Ysidro Point of Entry following a five-month manhunt.
The investigation began on August 25, 2025, when police conducting a welfare check discovered Gonzalez-Carbajal’s headless body inside Lira’s Anaheim residence. Detectives determined that Lira had fled the country immediately following the death. The couple had reportedly been dating for approximately two months after meeting at a club where Lira worked as an exotic dancer.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer announced that Lira faces one felony count of murder and a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. “Nothing, not time, not distance, nor foreign borders, will thwart our pursuit of justice,” Spitzer said in a statement regarding the international cooperation involved in her capture.
Legal proceedings are in the preliminary stages, and Lira is currently being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. She is scheduled for arraignment on February 13, 2026, at the North Justice Center. It is important to note that a criminal complaint contains allegations that have not yet been proven in court. The defendant retains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and her legal defense team has not yet released a public statement regarding the specific circumstances of the event.
