Trump Criticizes Iran’s Counterproposal Amid Growing Regional Tensions
U.S. President Donald Trump sharply rejected Iran’s latest response to a proposed peace agreement aimed at ending ongoing conflict in the Middle East, calling Tehran’s position “totally unacceptable.”
The comments came as a fragile ceasefire continued to face pressure from renewed military activity and diplomatic disagreements involving the United States, Iran, Israel, and regional allies.
Iran reportedly submitted its counterproposal through Pakistani mediators after Washington introduced a multi-point peace framework focused on ending hostilities and addressing nuclear concerns. However, major disagreements remain unresolved, especially over Iran’s nuclear program and security demands in the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil markets reacted quickly to the developments, with energy prices climbing amid fears that prolonged tensions could further disrupt global shipping and fuel supplies.
Major Differences Remain Over Nuclear Program and Sanctions
According to reports, the U.S. proposal included restrictions on uranium enrichment, removal of highly enriched nuclear material, and limitations on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Iran’s response reportedly demanded an end to U.S. sanctions, removal of naval restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, compensation for war-related damages, and guarantees against future attacks.
Trump criticized Tehran for delaying negotiations and warned that additional military action could still be considered if talks fail to move forward. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also stated that the conflict is not fully over, saying concerns about Iran’s nuclear capabilities remain unresolved.
Ceasefire Struggles as Conflict Risks Continue
Despite diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and Qatar, tensions in the region remain high. Reports of drone incidents, clashes near the Strait of Hormuz, and continued fighting involving Iran-backed groups in Lebanon have raised concerns about whether the ceasefire can survive.
International leaders are also monitoring the economic impact of the crisis, especially disruptions to one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Trump is expected to discuss the ongoing conflict and energy security concerns during upcoming international meetings as pressure grows for a broader peace agreement in the region.
