Hialeah Man Jailed For Stalking Former Business Partner Over Unpaid Debt
A 44-year-old Hialeah man faces felony charges after authorities allege he conducted a campaign of harassment against a former business associate who reportedly owed him a substantial sum of money. Gabriel Pena was taken into custody by Doral police on Tuesday and charged with aggravated stalking, installing a tracking device without consent, and trespassing.
The investigation intensified in December when the victim reported multiple suspicious encounters with Pena. According to arrest affidavits, the situation escalated on December 4, 2025, when the victim’s home security system alerted him to an intruder in his driveway. Surveillance footage reportedly captured a man dressed in black Gymshark athletic wear near the residence. Shortly after this incident, the victim received a notification on his phone indicating that an unauthorized tracking device, identified as an “Htag,” was traveling with him. Police allege that the device’s serial number was registered to a phone number belonging to Pena, and an officer later confirmed the device’s presence after receiving a proximity alert while standing near the victim’s vehicle.
The conflict stems from a business arrangement that dissolved approximately two years ago. The victim, whose identity has been withheld by authorities, reportedly admitted to investigators that he owed Pena $200,000 following the collapse of their professional relationship. Rather than pursuing civil litigation to recover the funds, authorities state that Pena attempted to handle the collection personally, allegedly ignoring the victim’s requests to settle the matter in court and appearing randomly at locations frequented by the debtor.
While the methods used were deemed illegal by law enforcement, the suspect appeared to view his actions as a justified attempt to resolve a significant financial dispute. When officers apprehended Pena leaving the victim’s gated community on Tuesday—reportedly wearing clothing consistent with the earlier surveillance footage—he expressed frustration regarding the criminal consequences of his efforts to contact the victim. According to the arrest report, Pena remarked to the arresting officers, “Is this what I get for knocking on someone’s door?” The suspect was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
