Former Teacher Charged in Double Homicide at Arkansas State Park Appears in Court 250728 Clinton Brink Cristen Brink 3x2 mn 1430 72511f

A 45-year-old former educator appeared before a Washington County courtroom today facing two counts of capital murder after his arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing of a couple hiking in a popular Arkansas state park this summer. The preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Legal Action Filed as Capital Murder Case Advances

During Friday’s hearing, the defendant’s attorneys submitted more than a dozen motions, including a challenge to the constitutionality of Arkansas’s capital murder statute. The prosecution is actively pursuing the death penalty. He initially entered a plea of not guilty back in August and remains held without bond at the county detention center.

Details of the Crime Scene and Arrest

The victims, age 43 and 41, were located along a trail in Devil’s Den State Park on July 26 while hiking with their two young daughters, ages 7 and 9, who emerged unhurt. Emergency services discovered a trail of blood and eyewitnesses reported seeing a man exit the scene with blood on his face and leave in a black sedan. Law enforcement tracked and arrested the suspect approximately 30 miles away at a salon in Springdale based on the vehicle description.
According to the Arkansas State Police, DNA evidence recovered at the scene matched the suspect and he later admitted to the killings during questioning. Officials say there’s no known link between the defendant and the victims, suggesting the attack was random.
