A tranquil suburban street in Wichita, Kansas, was rocked by a chilling discovery early Friday morning. Authorities say that former television anchor 47-year-old Angelynn “Angie” Mock is now booked on first-degree murder charges after her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, was found unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Neighbours reported seeing Mock covered in blood shortly before the 911 call, and the arrest has ignited a wave of shock across the local community.
Subhead 1: Discovery, Response and Arrest
According to the Wichita Police Department, officers arrived at the home in the early hours of October 31 after a dispatch flagged a reported stabbing. At about 7:52 a.m., they found Mock outside the house with visible cuts on her hands and clothes soaked in blood. Inside, Avers lay in bed, critically wounded with multiple stab marks. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Mock was treated for her injuries and then taken into custody, with booking records indicating a $1 million bond.
Subhead 2: Allegations of Self-Defence & Neighbour’s Account
As neighbours drove up, one woman flagged down the pair in a car, hands and garments stained with blood, asking to borrow a phone to call 911. She then returned into the home with the device. During the 911 call, dispatchers were told the suspect said she “stabbed her mother to save herself.” According to investigators, the motive remains unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
Subhead 3: Career Background & Next Steps
Mock previously worked as a morning anchor for the St. Louis-area station KTVI (FOX 2) between 2011 and 2015 before moving into data-management and sales roles. Avers, her mother, had worked as a marriage and family therapist in Wichita. Court records show Mock is scheduled for a preliminary hearing, while officials continue to probe her actions and state of mind at the time of the attack.
