NASHVILLE — A 20-year-old college basketball standout was fatally shot Sunday night on a busy Nashville interstate as he drove home with classmates, authorities confirmed. The Fisk University student-athlete died from his injuries after the vehicle he was in was struck by gunfire, triggering a crash and sparking an ongoing investigation by Metro Nashville police.
Shooting on Interstate 65 Leaves Player Dead
According to Metro Nashville Police Department officials, the shooting unfolded around 8 p.m. on Interstate 65 North near the I-40 interchange as the group was headed back to campus following a gymnastics event at the fairgrounds. Witnesses reported that a dark sedan pulled alongside the student’s car before multiple rounds were fired, striking the driver in the head.
The victim’s vehicle, a white Nissan Sentra, lost control and spun into oncoming traffic, colliding with a red pickup truck. The shooter’s vehicle fled the scene, and police believe it may have sustained damage, including possible windshield breakage.

Fisk University announced that the student, a business administration major and key player on the men’s basketball team, succumbed to his wounds at a medical center early Monday.
