A young teenager has been arrested after police say he shot and killed a man during a private gathering in Lavon, Texas. The 14-year-old, a student at a local middle school, was taken into custody without incident in Dallas less than 48 hours after the fatal incident. Law enforcement officials characterize the act as targeted and not a threat to the wider community.
Alleged Teen Suspect Apprehended Following Deadly Shooting
Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter, a youth enrolled at Community Trails Middle School, was arrested in Dallas late Monday. The juvenile had been missing from school since November and was located by law enforcement who say there was no resistance at the time of arrest.
Police reports state that the confrontation began at a small gathering at a home on Wellington Drive, where the teen and victim Romeo English, 24, got into a verbal and physical dispute. After the altercation was separated by others, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at close range as English was leaving the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
Schools Increase Safety Measures as Investigation Continues
Officials with the Community Independent School District addressed the incident by stepping up security protocols at campuses in Lavon. Visitor access has been tightened, and additional safety personnel are on site to reassure parents and staff while police continue their investigation.
District representatives have emphasized that they believe the shooting was isolated and not linked to any broader risk within schools. Despite this, temporary restrictions remain in place to maintain a secure environment for students and faculty.
Law Enforcement Response and Public Appeal
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the swift apprehension, including local and state departments. Police continue to urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist with the case.
At this stage, the identity of the minor suspect has not been publicly released due to legal protections for juvenile offenders. Investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting as they monitor developments and community concerns.
