Vice City Pizza in South Miami Set to Close Its Doors This Sunday
Vice City Pizza is shuttering its South Miami location just months after declaring the spot a permanent fixture. The Detroit-style pizzeria, located at 5829 SW 73rd St, will have its final day of operation on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026. While the brand’s original West Kendall outpost remains open, the sudden departure from South Miami marks a significant contraction for the popular local chain.
Financial Pressures Force Sale
The decision to close comes after co-owner Jorgie Ramos sold the location’s lease to an undisclosed hospitality group from Belgium. According to Ramos, the sale was driven by financial necessity rather than a lack of popularity. He cited severe stress and cash flow issues stemming from his other venture, Cebada Rooftop in Coral Gables, which suffered a months-long closure due to a malfunctioning elevator. Ramos described the lease offer as one he “couldn’t refuse” during a time when ensuring liquidity was a priority, admitting the move was “one of the hardest choices” he has had to make.
From Pop-Up to Permanent and Back
The closure is particularly abrupt given the restaurant’s recent history. Vice City Pizza originally occupied the South Miami space—formerly known as Bar Bella—as a summer residency in 2025. Following the pop-up’s success, ownership announced in August 2025 that the takeover would be permanent. Founded in 2021 by classically trained Chef Carlos Estarita and Ramos, the brand began as a pandemic-era passion project. It quickly gained a following for its two-day fermented dough and signature toppings, such as the “Roni & Hot Honey.”
Community and Future Impact
Objections to the closure have surfaced among disappointed locals and staff who had welcomed the permanent addition to the neighborhood less than a year ago. The South Miami restaurant scene has seen high turnover, and losing a settled favorite adds to the volatility. However, the lease sale allows the incoming Belgian group to take over the prime corner spot, potentially bringing a new concept to the area soon. Meanwhile, Vice City Pizza will consolidate its operations back to its West Kendall headquarters at 2615 SW 147th Ave.
