British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been formally charged with two more serious sexual offences, police announced Tuesday. The new allegations — one count of rape and one count of sexual assault — involve two women and come amid an ongoing criminal case already involving multiple charges tied to incidents dating back more than two decades.
New Charges Expand Legal Troubles
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the additional charges against Brand, 50, bringing the total number of alleged victims to six. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the new counts, which relate to alleged incidents that occurred around 2009. Brand will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026 to face these accusations.
These latest charges add to earlier allegations filed in April 2025, which included two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one of indecent assault involving four women between 1999 and 2005. Brand pleaded not guilty to those initial charges and denies any non-consensual conduct.
Ongoing Investigation and Court Timetable
The broader case stems from a long-running investigation that began after multiple women came forward with accusations following media reporting by major British outlets. The earlier trial for the original set of charges has been scheduled to start June 16, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court and is expected to last several weeks.
Police have emphasised ongoing support for the women who have made reports and urged anyone else with information to come forward as the investigation continues. Brand, once a prominent figure in British entertainment and later a social media personality, has maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings, acknowledging past personal struggles but denying criminal behaviour.
