Parkland Man Accused of Stalking Ex-Girlfriend and Sending Bullet in Mail
Authorities in Broward County have arrested a 23-year-old man on charges of aggravated stalking and the illegal installation of a tracking device following a series of disturbing allegations involving his former partner. The Broward Sheriff’s Office took Jakir Hasan into custody on Wednesday after investigators linked him to a months-long campaign of harassment that reportedly included placing an electronic tracker on the victim’s vehicle and leaving a frightening package at her family’s home.
According to the arrest report, the investigation began after the victim, whose name has been withheld for privacy, discovered an Apple AirTag hidden in her car. She was alerted to the device’s presence by a notification on her phone, which allowed her to locate the tracker. Detectives allege that Hasan, who dated the victim for approximately two years before their breakup eight or nine months ago, admitted to placing the device during a subsequent interview.
The situation reportedly escalated earlier this month when the victim’s brother discovered a suspicious envelope left in the driveway of their residence. Police say the envelope contained several handwritten letters and a single 9mm bullet. The victim also reported receiving text messages from Hasan threatening violence against her new boyfriend.
Despite these serious allegations and police statements indicating Hasan admitted to writing the letters and sending the bullet, the accused maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. It remains unclear if Hasan has retained legal counsel to contest the specific charges of aggravated stalking, harassment, and cyberstalking. As of late this week, he remained held in the Broward County jail on a $10,000 bond. The case is expected to proceed through the court system, where the defense will have the opportunity to challenge the admissibility of the alleged confession and the context of the communications cited by law enforcement.
