In a targeted morning attack at his rural home in Forest City, North Carolina, 25-year-old Tyler Weaver — a two-time national kart racing champion turned electrical tradesman — was fatally shot in front of his fiancé when two gunmen broke in. Law enforcement quickly tracked down and arrested the suspects, identifying the violent incident as a “robbery gone wrong”.

Shot at Home: Morning Break-In Turns Deadly

On October 24, just before 10 a.m., officers from the Forest City Police Department responded to a reported break-in at a residence on Harris Lee Drive. Inside, they discovered Weaver lying on the floor as his fiancé, Nevaeh Quintero, made the 911 call from the scene and escaped unharmed. Investigators concluded Weaver died of multiple gunshot wounds. The attack was later described by police as a “targeted” home invasion.

Suspects Captured: Long Criminal Histories

Within a week of the shooting, warrants were issued for the arrest of Quitez Watkins (35) and Jaquavious Craig (26) — both men with extensive prior felony records involving drug trafficking, weapons offenses and violent crimes. Watkins was taken into custody by a regional fugitive task force, while Craig turned himself in to authorities in Rutherford County. Both now face first-degree murder charges and are being held without bond.

Remembering a Champion Taken Too Soon

Friends and family remembered Weaver as a kind-hearted and generous individual whose life revolved around sports and service. He had earned recognition as a two-time champion in national kart racing circuits, while also working as an electrician. The organization that once honored him described him as one of the proudest champions in their sport. His family, struck with grief, have asked for prayers and support as they cope with the unexpected loss.
