Miami-Dade Murderer Who Became Pregnant in Jail Accused of Battering Fellow Inmate
Daisy Link, a 30-year-old inmate currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, faces new charges following a violent altercation with another detainee earlier this week. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reports that Link entered the cell of a woman identified only as Gupta on Monday afternoon and punched her repeatedly in the face and head. The victim, who suffered minor injuries including a cut lip and a scratch, told corrections officers that at least 15 blows were struck and that the attack occurred without any prior verbal exchange or provocation.
Link previously garnered national attention and scrutiny for the correctional facility after revealing she had become pregnant while in custody, despite strict gender separation protocols. Investigations later disclosed that she and another inmate, Joan DePaz, facilitated the conception through the facility’s ventilation system. Link was convicted of second-degree murder in October for the 2022 shooting death of her partner, Pedro Jimenez.
While authorities have charged Link with battery by a detainee regarding this latest incident, her legal defense and family have historically raised objections regarding her confinement conditions. They contend that Link suffers from severe mental health issues, including schizophrenia, and argue that the facility has failed to provide adequate psychiatric care or security. Her representatives have previously cited both the unsupervised pregnancy and her behavioral patterns as evidence of systemic negligence within the jail. Corrections officials state that the investigation into the battery allegation is active.
