FBI: DNA Recovered from Glove Found Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home Links to Suspect
TUCSON, Ariz. — In a significant development regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed on Sunday that DNA has been recovered from a glove found near the 84-year-old woman’s home. Investigators state that the glove appears to visually match the pair worn by a suspect captured on surveillance video the night Guthrie vanished.
According to an FBI spokesperson, the glove was discovered approximately two miles from Guthrie’s residence in the Catalina Foothills area. While search teams have recovered roughly 16 gloves in the vicinity during the extensive two-week search—most of which were identified as discarded equipment from search personnel—this specific item is distinct. Agents noted that the glove bears a strong resemblance to those worn by the masked individual seen in Nest doorbell camera footage released earlier this week.
“The glove retrieved would need to have the victim’s DNA or some other forensic material to tie it to the specific incident, but preliminary testing has recovered a DNA profile,” the FBI stated. The bureau is currently awaiting final quality control checks and official confirmation before the unknown male profile is uploaded to CODIS, the national DNA database. This process is expected to take approximately 24 hours.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to attend a scheduled church service. She was last seen at her home on January 31. The case has drawn national attention, with hundreds of federal agents and local detectives scouring the rugged terrain north of Tucson.
The surveillance video, which has become a focal point of the investigation, shows a person dressed in dark clothing, a ski mask, and carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack. The individual is seen approaching Guthrie’s front door and attempting to obscure the camera lens with foliage. Authorities have previously confirmed that blood was found on the front porch of the home, heightening fears of foul play.
Concerns for Guthrie’s safety are intensifying due to her medical needs. She reportedly relies on daily medication for high blood pressure and has a pacemaker. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has indicated that while ransom notes have been received by various media outlets, deadlines have passed without further communication, and their authenticity remains under review.
The FBI continues to urge anyone with information regarding the glove, the suspect’s description, or Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts to contact the dedicated tip line immediately.
