Deadly Late-Night Shooting in Calumet Heights

A man was killed and another was seriously wounded during a shooting late Wednesday in Chicago’s Calumet Heights neighborhood. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 11 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Essex Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found two men inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.


Victim Dies at Hospital, Second Man Fighting for Life

A 35-year-old man was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second victim, a 22-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital in critical condition, according to investigators.

Police have not released the names of the victims as family notifications are ongoing.


Investigation Ongoing, No Arrests Announced

Detectives are still working to identify a motive and determine whether the victims were targeted. No arrests have been made, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact area detectives.

The shooting adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Southeast Chicago neighborhoods, where police have increased patrols in recent months.
