Broward County EMT Arrested After Allegedly Mailing Bullet Casing to Ex-Girlfriend
A 23-year-old emergency medical technician from South Florida has been taken into custody by the Broward Sheriff’s Office following serious accusations of aggravated stalking and harassment. Authorities allege that Jakir Hasan, a West Palm Beach resident, engaged in a disturbing pattern of behavior against his former partner, which culminated in mailing her a handwritten letter containing a bullet casing.
According to the arrest report, the investigation began in Parkland when the victim reported that her ex-boyfriend of two years had been relentlessly harassing her since their breakup approximately six months ago. Detectives state that the behavior escalated from unwanted text messages and social media contact to physical surveillance. The victim reportedly discovered a tracking device illegally installed in her vehicle, allegedly placed there by Hasan to monitor her movements without her consent.
Law enforcement officials indicate that Hasan’s attempts to contact the victim included sending flowers and a letter sent via the United States Postal Service. Inside the envelope, the victim reportedly found a spent bullet casing taped to the handwritten note. The correspondence allegedly contained language demanding the victim resume their relationship. Consequently, Hasan faces charges including aggravated stalking, cyberstalking, and the illegal installation of a tracking device.
Legal experts note that while the presence of ballistic evidence and tracking hardware presents a compelling case for the prosecution, Hasan retains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. Defense counsel in similar stalking cases often argues that the defendant’s intent was reconciliation rather than intimidation, or they may challenge the chain of custody regarding the physical evidence found in the vehicle and mail. It remains to be seen how the defense will address the specific allegation of the mailed ammunition casing.
In the state of Florida, aggravated stalking is a third-degree felony that involves willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly following or harassing another person while making a credible threat. The addition of cyberstalking charges reflects the modern legal system’s approach to harassment via electronic communications and surveillance technology. Domestic violence advocates emphasize that the use of tracking devices and ballistic imagery are often considered significant risk factors for escalation in such cases.
Hasan was booked into the Broward County Main Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings. A judge is expected to rule on bond conditions and likely issue a no-contact order to ensure the safety of the victim while the case moves through the justice system.
