Arizona Woman Charged With Aggravated Assault After Brutal Roller Skate Attack on Ex-Boyfriend’s Friend
A 25-year-old woman in Glendale, Arizona, is facing serious felony charges after allegedly using a roller skate as a weapon to bludgeon a female friend of her ex-boyfriend. Justic Cofield was taken into custody following the violent incident at the Great Skate roller rink, which left the victim with severe facial injuries.
According to the Glendale Police Department, the attack occurred on January 25 when Cofield approached the victim from behind and struck her in the head with a roller skate. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Cofield holding a skate in each hand before “abruptly swinging” one at the victim. Authorities state that Cofield continued to assault the woman after knocking her to the ground. The victim sustained significant injuries, including two black eyes, a concussion, and dental damage resulting in a chipped tooth and a missing crown.
Police reports indicate the motive was rooted in jealousy. The victim told investigators she believed she was targeted simply for being friends with Cofield’s ex-boyfriend. Following the assault, Cofield allegedly took to Instagram to brag about the incident, sending direct messages and posting to her story. In these social media posts, she reportedly admitted to the attack and claimed she did it to “send a message” to her ex-partner. She further stated that had the altercation happened outside the rink, she would have “used a pole,” a slang term authorities identified as referencing a firearm.
Despite the video evidence and social media posts, Cofield initially attempted to deny her involvement when approached by law enforcement, claiming, “That’s not me,” before attempting to flee on foot. She was quickly apprehended and now faces charges of aggravated assault, destruction of public property, and resisting arrest.
Critics and community members have expressed outrage over the premeditated nature of the assault and the subsequent online boasting. Legal observers note that the social media posts will likely serve as damning evidence against Cofield, undermining any potential defense regarding self-defense or accidental injury. The incident has also sparked discussions regarding safety in family-friendly venues like roller rinks, where patrons expect a secure environment free from domestic-related violence. The victim has since shared photos of her injuries with investigators to document the severity of the assault.
