Honduran National Arrested in Livingston Parish on Rape and Home Invasion Charges
LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. – Authorities in Livingston Parish have arrested a Honduran national following a disturbance in the Denham Springs area involving severe allegations of sexual violence. The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) confirmed the apprehension of 37-year-old Irlando Giron, who is currently being held without bond on multiple felony charges.
Giron, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as an undocumented foreign national, was taken into custody after a female victim accused him of breaking into her home and sexually assaulting her. According to Sheriff Jason Ard, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Whitley Road. The victim, who is a neighbor of the suspect, was reportedly transported to a hospital for treatment following the ordeal.
Investigators allege that Giron was armed during the commission of the crime. Deputies recovered a firearm at the scene which had been reported stolen out of Texas. Giron now faces charges of first-degree rape, home invasion, aggravated assault with a firearm, and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
Sheriff Ard noted that while the investigation is ongoing, early evidence suggests this was a specific target rather than a random act. “This appears to be an isolated incident,” Ard stated, adding that investigators found no signs of forced entry at the residence. He advised residents to remain vigilant regarding home security, including the use of locks and lighting systems.
This arrest occurs against the backdrop of intensified scrutiny regarding immigration and public safety in Louisiana. Governor Jeff Landry recently signed an executive order mandating that state law enforcement agencies track and report data specifically regarding crimes committed by undocumented individuals. This policy aims to quantify the fiscal and public safety impact of illegal immigration on the state, a move that has drawn both support for its transparency and criticism for potentially politicizing law enforcement data.
Legal experts and advocacy groups urge caution in generalizing criminal behavior based on immigration status. Comprehensive studies, including research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Cato Institute, consistently indicate that immigrants—both documented and undocumented—have lower incarceration rates than native-born U.S. citizens. Furthermore, legal defense representatives emphasize that an arrest report does not constitute a conviction and that Giron retains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.
Giron remains in custody at the Livingston Parish Detention Center as the investigation proceeds.
