In a harrowing incident in Rhode Island, a 24-year-old man entered his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, demanded sex from her under threat of a firearm, then opened fire—killing both her mother and her mother’s boyfriend before taking his own life.

Confrontation Erupts Over Teen Relationship

Authorities report that the attacker, aged 24, had been in a relationship with the 19-year-old daughter of the female victim. The pair were engaged in a heated discussion about their relationship when the gunman produced a weapon and demanded sexual compliance at gunpoint inside the home. The argument escalated into violence in the daughter’s bedroom. She fled when shots rang out.

The Fatal Shooting and Aftermath

The mother, 40, and her boyfriend, 45, were discovered fatally shot in the apartment. The assailant then turned the weapon on himself, resulting in his death. He used a .380-caliber handgun, reportedly stolen from another state. Surveillance footage shows the frightened daughter running from the scene to a nearby smoke shop, covered in blood and seeking assistance. Neighbors arrived to find police rushing in with drawn weapons.

Lives Cut Short — Reflections and Investigation

The mother was a dedicated nursing-student, expected to graduate soon, and the boyfriend was remembered by loved ones as devoted and family-oriented. A vigil held in their memory drew expressions of deep sorrow and calls for awareness of intimate-partner violence. Investigators noted that while the crime was confined to the residence, the weapon’s illicit origin underscores wider concerns around stolen firearms.
