In a startling midday incident at New York City’s famed tourist hub, a man was stabbed twice Saturday morning in broad daylight. The attack took place outside 1501 Broadway, near West 44th Street, around 11:40 a.m., leaving the victim wounded and the suspect at large. Police say the victim is in stable condition, yet has remained uncooperative, complicating the investigation.

Subhead: Attack unfolds near popular dining spot

Witnesses describe the victim — believed to be homeless and about 30 years old — standing outside the building that houses a known chain restaurant when the suspect suddenly struck. The assailant plunged a knife into the victim’s left ribs and arm, then fled in an unknown direction. One nearby vendor recalled the shirtless man shouting “save the children” as he bled heavily on the sidewalk.

Subhead: Victim hospitalised, motive still unclear

Emergency responders rushed the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. However, due to his unwillingness to cooperate, authorities say they have no leads on why the assault occurred or what precipitated it. The suspect is described only as wearing a black jacket and dark pants.

Subhead: Crime data at the scene

According to official figures, the 14th Precinct has recorded a slight 1% increase in felony assaults this year — rising from 471 to 476 — while the citywide rate of major crime has dropped approximately 3%. This latest incident underscores the unpredictable nature of violence even in well-policed tourist zones like Times Square.
