Trump Administration Moves to Roll Back Biden-Era Gun Licensing Rules 1 1 3

Trump Administration Targets Biden-Era Firearm Regulations

The Trump administration is taking steps to scale back several gun regulations introduced during former President Joe Biden’s administration, marking another major shift in federal firearms policy. The proposed changes focus on reducing licensing requirements for gun sellers and easing oversight by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Supporters argue the revisions will protect Second Amendment rights and eliminate unnecessary regulations, while critics warn they could weaken safeguards designed to prevent illegal firearm sales and trafficking.

Proposed Changes Could Ease Licensing Requirements

Among the planned changes is a rollback of rules that expanded the number of firearm sellers required to obtain federal licenses and conduct background checks. The administration also aims to modify additional ATF policies introduced under Biden, saying the regulations placed excessive burdens on lawful gun owners and licensed dealers.

Justice Department officials say the proposed revisions are intended to simplify compliance with federal firearm laws while maintaining enforcement against criminal activity. Gun rights organizations have welcomed the move, calling it a restoration of constitutional protections.

Critics Warn of Public Safety Concerns

Gun safety advocates argue that loosening licensing requirements and reducing federal oversight could make it easier for firearms to reach prohibited buyers through private sales or unlicensed dealers. They contend that the Biden-era regulations were designed to close gaps in background check requirements and improve accountability within the firearms industry.

The proposed changes are expected to face legal and political scrutiny as policymakers continue debating the balance between constitutional gun rights and public safety measures.
