A 45-year-old woman in Florence, Italy, died in a suspected murder-suicide after her former boyfriend allegedly abducted her from her home and threw her from a bridge along the A1 highway. The man, identified as 38-year-old Federico Vella, later died after jumping from the same bridge, while investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Woman Allegedly Abducted From Her Florence Home
The incident occurred on Sept. 3 in the Rifredi area of Florence. Investigators believe Vella may have waited in the garage for Lorena Isceri to return home before allegedly taking her against her will.
Authorities say Isceri was placed inside the trunk of Vella’s vehicle before he drove away toward the A1 highway. During the alleged abduction, Isceri reportedly managed to use her cellphone to contact police for assistance.
According to investigators, Vella then took the phone from her before allegedly throwing her from a highway bridge.
Investigation Underway Into Woman’s Death
Highway patrol officers reportedly reached the location and found Vella on the bridge shortly before he jumped to his death.
Authorities have ordered an autopsy to establish whether Isceri died from the fall or had already been fatally injured before she was thrown from the bridge. The investigation is being handled by the Florence Public Prosecutor’s Office and the city’s mobile police squad.
Isceri worked in the veterinary sector. Her mother said she had previously spoken about her relationship with Vella and had expressed fear.
Ex-Boyfriend Had Recently Written About Their Breakup
Vella had publicly discussed the end of his relationship with Isceri in an Instagram post published Aug. 12. The post included photographs and videos of the former couple and described his emotional reaction to their separation.
The case comes amid concerns over violence against women in Italy. According to figures cited in the reporting, 40 women had been killed in the country by Aug. 8, with seven reportedly killed by a current or former partner.
Authorities continue to investigate the deaths and the events leading up to the alleged murder-suicide.
