A woman in Seattle says she suffered a serious facial injury after she was allegedly attacked by a stranger in a downtown area. The victim, Diana Gonzalez, said the encounter began unexpectedly and escalated after the woman allegedly shouted offensive remarks before biting her forehead.
The suspect, identified by authorities as 36-year-old Camelia Chadli, has been charged with felony assault in connection with the incident.
Victim Says Attack Began Without Warning
Gonzalez said she had never met the woman before the confrontation. According to her account, Chadli was sitting near the Arctic Hotel when she allegedly threw a piece of trash toward Gonzalez and began shouting insults.
Gonzalez recalled the woman repeatedly referring to her as an “inferior race” and using a homophobic slur. The confrontation then became physical, with Gonzalez saying the woman spit at her and grabbed her.
The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly bit Gonzalez on the forehead, removing roughly a one-inch section of skin.
Hotel Employee Helped Stop the Fight
Gonzalez said she immediately realized she had suffered a significant injury and began bleeding. A hotel employee reportedly intervened and helped separate the two women, while other people at the scene assisted Gonzalez.
The victim later learned that the piece of skin allegedly removed during the attack had been spit out and ended up in a nearby grate.
Gonzalez described the injury as shocking and said the appearance of the wound reminded her of a fictional “zombie bite.”
Authorities said the injury is expected to leave Gonzalez with a permanent scar. She has also required medical treatment following the alleged assault.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
After the confrontation, Chadli reportedly walked toward a nearby bus stop close to the courthouse, where authorities took her into custody.
The case has raised concerns because Gonzalez said she did not know the suspect and believes the attack was completely unprovoked. She said she hopes the legal process holds the accused responsible while also receiving appropriate help.
The investigation and court proceedings will determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and any additional allegations that may be considered.
