Child’s Remains Recovered During Ongoing Investigation
Authorities in Illinois have recovered the remains of a child believed to be connected to a long-running parental kidnapping investigation that began in 2024. Officials say the heartbreaking discovery was made in Stookey Township following a joint investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The child’s identity has not yet been officially confirmed. The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office is conducting forensic examinations to determine the identity and cause of death. Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Father and Second Suspect Held Without Bond
The investigation initially started after the child’s mother reported the child missing in July 2024. According to investigators, the child had last been seen with the father in May 2024 while the parents shared custody.
During the early stages of the investigation, the father allegedly told authorities that the child was living with an Amish community in Mississippi and claimed he had recently been in contact with the child. Despite multiple interviews and investigative efforts, authorities were unable to verify those claims.
The case gained new momentum in June 2026 after the child’s mother filed another report, leading investigators to uncover new evidence. Authorities later arrested 32-year-old Ronnell Marquese Jones on charges related to parental kidnapping. A second suspect, 35-year-old Kirstie Dora, was also arrested on charges including parental kidnapping and harassment. Officials have not disclosed Dora’s relationship to the child. Both suspects are currently being held without bond.
Investigation Continues as Community Awaits Answers
Law enforcement officials say the investigation remains active as forensic experts work to identify the child’s remains and determine exactly what happened. Authorities have not revealed what evidence led investigators to the location where the remains were found.
Police expressed condolences to the child’s family, acknowledging the emotional impact of the case and promising to continue pursuing answers. Officials also emphasized their commitment to transparency and accountability as the investigation moves forward.
