Emergency Landing Ends in Fiery Crash Near Sucia Island
A Kenmore Air seaplane carrying 10 passengers and one pilot crashed near Sucia Island in Washington state after making an emergency landing, triggering a large-scale rescue operation. Despite the aircraft catching fire after impact, everyone on board survived.
The aircraft was traveling from Seattle’s Lake Union to Roche Harbor when the incident occurred over Shallow Bay. Emergency responders quickly reached the scene and rescued all occupants from the water.
Multiple Injuries Reported After Rescue
Authorities said several people suffered injuries ranging from broken bones and head injuries to cuts and other trauma. One passenger remains in critical condition, while others were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The U.S. Coast Guard, local emergency crews, and air ambulance teams coordinated the rescue effort, ensuring all passengers and the pilot were safely evacuated shortly after the crash.
Investigation Underway Into Cause of Crash
The reason for the emergency landing has not yet been determined. Federal aviation investigators are examining the aircraft, weather conditions, and other factors to establish what led to the accident.
Kenmore Air confirmed it is cooperating fully with investigators while focusing on supporting the passengers, pilot, and their families. The airline also thanked emergency responders for their rapid response during the incident.
