State Department Approves Potential $3 Billion F-15 Sustainment Sale to Saudi Arabia
WASHINGTON — The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of F-15 sustainment and related equipment for an estimated cost of $3 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested to purchase a comprehensive sustainment package to support its fleet of F-15 combat aircraft. The package includes spares and repair parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support. Additionally, the request covers ground and personnel equipment, classified and unclassified software and software support, and classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation.
To ensure the continued operational readiness of the fleet, the sale also encompasses personnel training and training equipment, as well as U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services. Other related elements of logistics and program support are included to facilitate the maintenance and modernization of the aircraft.
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Gulf region. The State Department emphasized that the proposed sale will improve Saudi Arabia’s capability to meet current and future threats by sustaining its F-15 fleet, ensuring the Kingdom can continue to protect its borders and contribute to regional stability.
The implementation of this proposed sale may require the assignment of a small number of additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Saudi Arabia for extended periods to provide maintenance, training, and sustainment support.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. There is no known offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. The description and dollar value are for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreements, if and when concluded.
