Turkish Citizen Detained in UK Pending U.S. Extradition

A Turkish man has been arrested in the United Kingdom after U.S. authorities accused him of helping provide financial and material support to Hamas through what prosecutors describe as a humanitarian organization used as a cover.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Yousef Hasna, 45, from Istanbul, was taken into custody in the UK and is expected to face extradition proceedings before being transferred to the United States. U.S. officials have charged him with multiple terrorism-related offenses, including conspiracy to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization and financing terrorism.

U.S. Prosecutors Allege Long-Term Support Network

According to U.S. prosecutors, Hasna allegedly worked closely with senior Hamas officials since at least 2023. Investigators claim he used his leadership position within an international humanitarian organization to arrange the transfer of money, food, and other supplies that ultimately benefited Hamas.

Authorities say the aid was presented as legitimate humanitarian assistance while allegedly serving as a channel to support the group’s operations. Hamas is designated by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization.

Terrorism Charges Carry Significant Penalties

The charges filed against Hasna include conspiracy to provide material support to Hamas, conspiracy to finance terrorism, and financing terrorism. If convicted in the United States, each count could result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

The suspect will remain in UK custody while extradition proceedings move forward. Officials have not yet identified a U.S. defense attorney representing him. The case remains under investigation, and no trial date has been announced.
