A shocking mass shooting unfolded on Tuesday in the small British Columbia town of Tumbler Ridge, claiming the lives of ten people and injuring many others in what local officials are calling an “unimaginable tragedy.” The attack, which struck a secondary school and a nearby residence, has shaken the remote community and drawn national attention to issues of public safety.

Deadly Attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School

Police reports confirm that the first shots were fired inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where multiple victims were discovered. Several people were found deceased at the school, and others were later found at a house believed to be connected to the incident. At least one victim died while being transported to a hospital.

Emergency responders, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), arrived swiftly at the scene, securing the area and beginning a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shootings. Authorities say no further suspects are believed to be at large.

Suspect Found Dead, Cause Under Review

The suspected shooter was found dead at the scene with what appears to be a self-inflicted injury. Police have not released the suspect’s identity but described the individual as a female in a dress with brown hair during an active shooter alert.

Officials have confirmed that the suspect is among the ten confirmed fatalities, and investigators are exploring possible motives while continuing to interview witnesses and review evidence.

Impact on Community and Government Response

Leaders at both the provincial and national levels have expressed deep sorrow over the violence. British Columbia Premier David Eby described the event as “heartbreaking,” and support services are being mobilised for victims, families, and residents of the tight-knit community.

In response to the shooting, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney postponed scheduled travel and offered condolences, emphasising unity and support for those affected.

Tumbler Ridge, a remote town of only a few thousand residents situated in the Rocky Mountain foothills, is now grappling with the aftermath of one of the deadliest violent attacks in recent Canadian history.
