A 35-year-old Oklahoma man is facing two counts of first-degree murder following a devastating explosion at a THC extraction facility in Sand Springs that left two people dead and caused extensive damage to surrounding properties.

Authorities allege that the explosion occurred during an active marijuana manufacturing operation at the facility, raising serious questions about safety procedures, licensing and previous fire code violations.

Two Men Died Following Massive Sand Springs Explosion

The blast occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on August 27 at a business complex on South Lincoln Avenue in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The powerful explosion created a massive fireball and was reportedly felt many miles away.

Emergency crews responding to the scene found one victim dead. A second man was seriously injured and later died from his injuries.

According to information cited in an investigative affidavit, the injured victim told emergency personnel that the extraction area had inadequate ventilation. He reportedly said that after unplugging something, the building exploded.

Investigation Focuses on THC Extraction Operations and Safety Concerns

Investigators determined that the deadly incident was linked to an active marijuana manufacturing operation at the facility. THC extraction processes can involve highly flammable substances, including propane and butane, creating significant risks if equipment and ventilation systems are not properly managed.

Authorities also examined the facility’s history of safety compliance. The business had reportedly been instructed to stop operating shortly before the explosion because of issues identified during a fire inspection.

Investigators further alleged that hazardous materials and equipment found after the blast may not have been present during an earlier compliance inspection.

Facility Owner Faces First-Degree Murder Charges

Ryan Bassham, the owner of the THC extraction company, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths. Authorities also alleged that the operation lacked required licensing and registration connected to marijuana manufacturing activities.

Bassham turned himself in to authorities and was later released after posting bond, according to reports. The investigation into the deadly Oklahoma facility explosion remains ongoing.
