Alabama Mother Receives Two Life Sentences in Kahleb Collins Case

An Alabama court has sentenced 24-year-old Wendy Pamela Jean Bailey to two consecutive life sentences after she pleaded guilty to charges connected to the abuse of her 1-year-old son, Kahleb Collins.

Bailey admitted guilt to first-degree domestic violence and aggravated child abuse involving a child under the age of six. Prosecutors argued that she was aware of the severe abuse her son was suffering but failed to stop it or notify authorities. Investigators believe the abuse ultimately resulted in Kahleb’s death.

Investigation Revealed Disturbing Evidence

The case came to light following a December 2024 vehicle crash that killed Kahleb’s father, Steven Collins, and the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, RyLeigh. Bailey survived the crash with critical injuries.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Kahleb had not been seen for several months. Detectives later examined electronic devices, searched the family’s property multiple times, and uncovered photographs, messages, and other evidence documenting extensive abuse. Human remains were also recovered from burn piles on the property, and investigators believe the child died sometime between September and December 2024.

Court Imposes Maximum Punishment

District Attorney Andy Hamlin described the case as one of the most heartbreaking investigations the community has experienced. Prosecutors said the evidence showed Steven Collins carried out the abuse, while Bailey knowingly failed to intervene or report what was happening.

Bailey’s attorney acknowledged that she had also experienced abuse during her relationship with Steven Collins but said that did not excuse her failure to protect her son. The court imposed the maximum sentence allowed under Alabama law, ordering both life sentences to be served consecutively.
