Five Relatives Killed in Targeted East St. Louis Shooting
A devastating mass shooting in East St. Louis, Illinois, has left five members of the same family dead and two others seriously injured. Authorities say the attack was a targeted act of violence rather than a random shooting.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the shootings occurred at multiple locations across the city. Emergency responders found victims at three separate crime scenes as investigators began piecing together the sequence of events.
Two Teenagers Arrested Following Police Operation
Illinois State Police said two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were taken into custody after officers stopped a vehicle linked to the investigation. Authorities believe at least one of the suspects played a direct role in the fatal shootings.
Officials have not yet announced formal charges, as investigators continue working with prosecutors. Police also noted that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public while the investigation remains active.
Victims Identified as Investigation Continues
The victims ranged in age from 21 to 74 years old and were identified as Patricia A. May, Cherie L. May, Devin D. May, Shania W. Thompson, and Quentin L. Thompson. Two additional family members survived the attack but suffered serious injuries and remain under medical care.
Investigators have not disclosed a motive, although officials indicated the shooting involved people connected to the same family. Detectives are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses to determine what led to the deadly incident.
State police described the case as one of the most serious violent crimes the community has faced in recent years and pledged to pursue those responsible. Additional updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
