Two Tennessee Men Charged in Killing of College Basketball Player Andre Bell

Two Arrested in Death of Fisk University Basketball Player

Authorities in Tennessee have charged two young men in connection with the killing of 20-year-old Fisk University basketball player Andre Bell. Investigators announced that Brayden Carter, 19, and Damarion Coleman, 18, are facing first-degree murder charges following a months-long investigation into the January shooting.

Bell, a sophomore studying business administration and a member of the Fisk University basketball team, was shot while driving home with two friends after attending a gymnastics event in Nashville. He later died from his injuries.

Police Say Jealousy Led to Deadly Shooting

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly targeted Bell and his teammates because of Carter’s jealousy involving his girlfriend, who was part of the university’s gymnastics team. Officials believe the pair followed the students after the event with the intention of intimidating them.

Evidence collected during the investigation, including cellphone data, reportedly connected both suspects to the crime. Police said the shooting happened on Interstate 65 near the I-40 interchange.

Suspects Arrested After Five-Month Investigation

Carter was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Murfreesboro, where officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle. Coleman was later arrested at his residence by a SWAT team.

Both suspects are facing multiple charges in addition to first-degree murder. Carter’s bond has been set at $250,000, while Coleman, who was under 18 at the time of the shooting, is expected to face proceedings in juvenile court.

Bell’s family expressed relief following the arrests but said they continue to mourn the loss of the promising student-athlete.
