Four Teens Face Terrorism Allegations After Rotterdam Synagogue Explosion

Dutch prosecutors say four teenagers are being investigated for terrorism-related crimes after an explosion and fire damaged a synagogue in Rotterdam. The incident, which occurred early Friday morning, caused property damage but fortunately did not result in any injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects—aged between 17 and 19—were detained shortly after the blast. According to investigators, the group is suspected of causing an explosion, arson, and attempted arson with the intent to spread fear within the Jewish community.

The suspects appeared before an investigating judge and will remain in custody while the investigation continues.

Explosion Sparks Fire at Synagogue Entrance

The explosion took place around 3:40 a.m. near the entrance of a synagogue in the Dutch port city. The blast triggered a small fire that damaged part of the building, but emergency responders quickly contained the flames. No injuries were reported among nearby residents or members of the synagogue.

Police arrested the suspects after stopping a vehicle driving suspiciously near another synagogue in the city. Officers said the description of the individuals matched those linked to the earlier explosion.

Following the attack, authorities increased security and surveillance around Jewish institutions across Rotterdam.

Possible Link to Other Attacks Under Investigation

Officials are also examining whether the Rotterdam incident is connected to other recent attacks targeting Jewish sites in Europe. Investigators are reviewing online videos and claims by extremist groups, although the authenticity of those claims has not been confirmed.

In a separate case, an explosion outside a Jewish school in Amsterdam caused minor damage but no casualties. Authorities are still investigating that incident and have not announced any arrests.

Local leaders have strongly condemned the violence, emphasizing the need to protect religious communities and prevent rising antisemitic threats. Security measures at synagogues and Jewish institutions across the Netherlands have been strengthened as the investigation continues.
