California Camp Counselor Arrested Following Child Abuse Investigation

A 25-year-old YMCA summer camp counselor in California has been arrested and charged after authorities alleged he sexually abused a 10-year-old girl attending a summer day camp at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center.

The suspect, identified as Anthony Joseph Ramon of Gilroy, was taken into custody on July 9 after the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges. According to investigators, the alleged incident occurred while the child was participating in a YMCA-operated day camp.

Investigation Began After Report to Police

The Morgan Hill Police Department said the investigation started on June 30 after receiving a report involving the child. Detectives later identified Ramon as the suspect and informed the YMCA of Silicon Valley.

Officials said the organization cooperated fully with investigators and immediately placed Ramon on leave once it was notified of the allegations. Police confirmed Ramon had been employed by the YMCA since August 2024.

He has been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail with bail set at $100,000 and faces charges related to alleged lewd and lascivious acts involving a minor.

YMCA Reaffirms Child Protection Policies

Following the arrest, the YMCA stated that it maintains comprehensive child protection procedures designed to safeguard children in its programs. These measures include employee background checks, mandatory child abuse prevention training, supervision standards, and reporting requirements.

Authorities are encouraging parents and guardians to speak openly with children about personal safety and appropriate boundaries. Police also asked anyone with information related to the investigation to contact detectives, noting that the case remains active.
