Louisiana Stabbing Spree Leaves Four Family Members Dead as Suspect Detained

Louisiana Stabbing Spree Leaves Four Family Members Dead as Suspect Detained 1200

A devastating stabbing spree in Houma, Louisiana, has left four members of the same family dead and a young child critically injured. Authorities have detained a 47-year-old man in connection with the Saturday killings as investigators work to establish what led to the deadly attack.

The victims included a mother, her daughter, her son and his girlfriend. The tragedy has shaken the local community and prompted an outpouring of support for the surviving family members.

Four Family Members Identified After Deadly Houma Attack

The victims were identified by family relative and advocate Brandon Thiel as Verna Mae Verdin, her daughter Letha Verret, her son Paul Verret and his girlfriend Krissy Lynn Parfait.

The four were reportedly stabbed to death at their home in Houma, a community in southern Louisiana. Local authorities had not formally released the victims’ identities as of Monday, September 14, 2026.

According to information shared by Thiel, Verdin’s six-year-old grandson was also at the home during the attack. The child was critically wounded but managed to reach a neighbor, who contacted emergency services.

Thiel described the boy as an energetic and smiling child who meant a great deal to his family. The surviving relatives are now facing the loss of several loved ones while also hoping for the child’s recovery.

Suspect Detained as Police Investigate the Killings

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, which serves the Houma area, said deputies initially responded to reports of a series of stabbing incidents on Saturday.

When officers arrived, they encountered the injured child and later discovered the bodies of Verdin, the Verret siblings and Parfait nearby.

Authorities detained Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, in connection with the case. Investigators have not publicly established all the circumstances surrounding the attack or announced a complete account of the alleged motive.

Thiel told local television news that Solet had previously fathered a child with one of the victims.

Suspect’s Previous Criminal Cases

Solet has previously faced allegations involving violent incidents in Houma.

According to reports citing court records, he was tried and acquitted in connection with the attempted murder of a woman who was stabbed inside a Houma hotel in December 2019.

He was also booked in January 2019 in connection with the stabbing death of an unhoused man, Scott Lovell. A grand jury later declined to indict him in that case, according to reporting that cited Lovell’s mother.

Those earlier cases are separate from the current investigation, and the allegations do not establish guilt in the latest killings.

Community Rallies Around Victims’ Families

The tragedy has deeply affected the Verdin and Verret families. Verdin had reportedly been preparing to retire from Walmart after two decades of work, with her retirement planned for just two weeks after the killings.

Letha Verret was a mother of seven children, including three minors. Paul Verret and Krissy Lynn Parfait reportedly lived together in a camper behind the home shared by Letha and Verdin.

In the aftermath, Thiel organized an online fundraising campaign to help pay for funeral expenses and medical costs related to the injured child. By Monday morning, the campaign had raised more than $46,500.

The family is now seeking support as it copes with the loss of four relatives and the serious injuries suffered by the young survivor.

Investigation Continues

The Houma stabbing case comes amid wider concerns about domestic and intimate partner violence in Louisiana. The state has previously identified intimate partner violence as a significant public health concern.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of Saturday’s attack. Further information about possible charges, the motive and the child’s condition is expected as the case develops.

For now, the community remains focused on supporting the surviving child and the relatives of those killed in the Louisiana stabbing spree.
