Ohio Mother Arrested After Allegedly Confessing to Killing 3-Year-Old Daughter 24071788 G

Columbus, Ohio — A heartbreaking incident has shaken a neighborhood in Columbus after a 41-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of fatally killing her 3-year-old daughter on New Year’s Eve. Law enforcement says the woman admitted to intentionally placing a plastic bag over the child’s head, leading to her death. The case has prompted a full homicide investigation and stirred shock among local residents.

👮‍♂️ Arrest and Alleged Confession

Police responded late on December 31 to a call reporting an unresponsive child at a south Columbus home. First responders found the toddler unconscious and immediately attempted life-saving measures, but the girl was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital. According to court documents, the mother confessed to police that she had put a plastic bag over her daughter’s head with the intention to kill her.

A judge has set the defendant’s bond at $2 million, and she remains jailed pending further court proceedings.

😔 Community Reaction and Investigation Details

Neighbors described the tragic scene as surreal, recalling that the mother appeared unusually calm as officers arrived. Some residents expressed disbelief and shock, noting that they had seen the child playing outside and remembered her for her cheerful demeanor.

Authorities are treating the death as a homicide and continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death. A protective order prohibits the accused from contacting any minors, including her 13-year-old daughter who lives with her father.

🧠 Future Court Dates

The suspect has not yet entered a plea and is expected to appear in court later this month for preliminary hearings. The case continues to unfold as prosecutors prepare formal charges and evidence.
