New podcast episode investigates Minnesota man who killed pregnant sister over claims of lost innocence
Host Ana Garcia and criminologist Tracy Tamborra discuss the case of Jack Joseph Ball in the latest episode of “True Crime News: The Podcast.” Ball, a 24-year-old from Lakeville, Minnesota, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after killing and dismembering his sister, Bethany Ann Israel, in May 2024. Investigators recovered journals from Ball’s residence in which he described his sister as “impure” and “no longer innocent” specifically because of her pregnancy.
While the prosecution emphasized the premeditated nature of the crime, including the invitation for dinner prior to the attack, the defense presented significant arguments regarding Ball’s mental health. Legal counsel for the accused contended that he was suffering from a severe mental illness that rendered him unable to fully comprehend his actions during the incident. Ball was treated for a self-inflicted throat wound following his arrest and underwent competency evaluations before the legal proceedings could continue.
The case unfolded after the siblings’ mother arrived at the home to check on Bethany Israel, only to find a bloody crime scene and her son fleeing the premises. Authorities later located the victim’s remains scattered in the neighborhood. The episode exploring the criminological and legal aspects of this tragedy is available now on all podcast platforms.
