American Inmate Robert Gilman Receives Medical Treatment in Russian Hospital

Robert Gilman, an American citizen serving a lengthy prison sentence in Russia, has reportedly been transferred to a hospital for medical treatment. His lawyer confirmed that Gilman is receiving care but said it is too early to determine or disclose the exact nature of his illness.

The hospitalization has also affected ongoing legal proceedings, as a scheduled court hearing related to his case has been postponed until his health improves.

Medical Condition Remains Undisclosed

According to information provided by Gilman’s legal representative, doctors are currently treating him, but no official diagnosis has been made public. Because of his medical condition, a court in Voronezh delayed a hearing concerning an appeal connected to his most recent prison sentence.

Authorities have not released further information regarding his health or the expected duration of his hospital stay.

Background of Robert Gilman’s Case

Gilman, a former U.S. Marine, was initially sentenced in 2022 after being convicted of assaulting a Russian police officer. In the years that followed, additional convictions involving alleged assaults on prison staff and a state investigator resulted in further extensions to his prison term.

By late 2025, reports indicated that his combined sentences could amount to a total of 10 years in prison.

Supporters of Gilman have consistently argued that he was suffering from health problems at the time of his original arrest. They also claim that incidents inside the prison contributed to the additional charges brought against him.

His case has remained under international attention as U.S. officials have previously sought the release of several American citizens detained in Russia, with Gilman reportedly included among those discussed in diplomatic efforts.
