A major investigation is underway in Poland after authorities detained a 57-year-old former pathologist following the discovery of the remains of 32 unborn babies on a property she previously owned.

The disturbing discovery was made when construction workers carrying out ground work on the land found medical waste and alerted authorities. Prosecutors later confirmed that the remains belonged to human fetuses in early stages of development.

Officials have launched a large-scale forensic investigation and are examining whether more evidence could be hidden at the site.

Construction Workers Uncovered Medical Materials During Excavation

The property, located in the village of Lutoryż in southeastern Poland, had recently changed ownership. During excavation work, workers reportedly uncovered suspicious medical items, including laboratory materials and other biological waste.

Forensic experts were sent to the scene and confirmed the presence of human fetal remains. Authorities secured the area and began an extensive search of the property and surrounding infrastructure.

Investigators are also analyzing recovered materials, which reportedly include microscope slides and other medical equipment.

Suspect Allegedly Removed Remains During the Pandemic

According to investigators, the woman told authorities that she had taken the remains from a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic for research purposes.

She allegedly conducted examinations at home and later buried the remains on the property. Officials are now working to verify those claims and determine whether any laws were violated regarding the handling and disposal of medical materials.

The suspect was arrested in eastern Poland and remains under investigation.

Authorities Searching for Additional Evidence

Prosecutors have not ruled out the possibility that additional burial sites or other individuals could be connected to the case.

Forensic teams continue to examine the property, nearby drainage systems, and other areas that could contain evidence. If convicted on charges related to improper handling of human remains and hazardous medical waste, the suspect could face a lengthy prison sentence.

Authorities say the investigation remains active as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
