British activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was temporarily detained by police at Heathrow Airport after arriving in the United Kingdom from a trip that included Russia and Turkey. Authorities questioned him under provisions of the country’s Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act before releasing him later the same day.

According to officials, communication devices belonging to the 43-year-old activist were seized during the process. Robinson later stated on social media that he had been held for nearly three hours.

Police Use Border Security Powers

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man in his 40s was stopped at Heathrow Airport under Schedule 3 of the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019. The legislation gives authorities the power to question individuals at UK borders to determine whether they may have been involved in hostile activity.

After the interview, officers released the individual, while electronic devices taken during the stop are expected to undergo further examination.

Recent Online Activity Draws Attention

The detention came after Robinson had been highly active on social media during a week marked by unrest in Northern Ireland. Violence broke out in Belfast following an attempted murder case involving a Sudanese national. Authorities said the stabbing incident is not being treated as terrorism.

Several politicians and community leaders condemned the attacks on homes and businesses owned by ethnic minorities and warned that online figures had contributed to rising tensions.

Robinson Responds Following Release

Following his release, Robinson claimed that his phones had been seized and appealed to supporters for financial assistance to help cover legal expenses.

The Metropolitan Police have not provided additional details regarding the reason for the stop, and no charges have been announced.
