A 13-year-old British boy has died after being stabbed in a residential incident in Casais, near Tomar in central Portugal, authorities confirmed. The suspected attacker — reported to be the former partner of the child’s mother — also died at the scene after a subsequent gas-related explosion injured a police officer and left responders shocked.

Suspected Domestic Violence Leads to Fatal Attack

Police were alerted to what appeared to be a domestic violence situation at a home in the village of Casais on Tuesday morning. Responding officers from Portugal’s National Republican Guard (GNR) discovered the teenager and the alleged attacker both with stab wounds. Despite efforts by emergency services, the boy was declared dead at the scene.

The suspected assailant, believed to be the former partner of the boy’s mother, also succumbed to wounds after a gas explosion occurred inside the house shortly after authorities arrived, injuring one GNR officer. Police continue to investigate the exact sequence of events.

Family Found Injured, Community Mourns

The boy’s mother was found at the property showing signs of restraint and physical assault and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Local reports say the family had a history of domestic disputes that had been reported to authorities in past years.

Neighbors and community members have expressed deep sorrow following the tragedy. Team members from the young boy’s local basketball club paid tribute on social media, remembering him as a cherished and talented player whose loss has deeply affected friends and teammates.
